FAQ for Graduates

How do I apply to graduate?

Students wishing to participate in commencement must complete their graduation application: https://nwccdss.sheridan.edu/Student/Student/Graduation

This application must be completed before April 15, 2024, if you want your name printed in the Commencement Program.

Is cap and gown regalia required for the Commencement ceremony?

Yes, you must wear an institution-approved cap and gown. You may pick up your regalia from the Enrollment Office in the Main building from May 6 until May 9.

 

Appropriate clothing is required underneath your regalia. Graduates should know that their procession begins at the Main Building and goes to Pronghorn Center, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

Is there a rehearsal I have to attend?

Yes. On Thursday, May 9. It will take approximately 30-45 minutes.

  • Nurse Pinning at 2 PM
  • Commencement at 4:30 PM
Day of: when and where do I show up?

For Pinning Ceremony, arrive at Pronghorn Center no later than 12:45 PM. Come to the center of the Pronghorn Center Court in front of the stage.

For Commencement, arrive at Main Building Commons. It will be open beginning at 3:30 PM for you to get ready for your graduation! You will begin lining up (2×2) at 6:00 PM and walk from Main Building to Pronghorn Center before the ceremony.

How long are the ceremonies?

Nurse Pinning and Commencement can vary, but they are typically 60-90 minutes in length.

Can family and friends attend the Commencement ceremony?

Yes! Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

Is there a celebration to follow the ceremony?

Yes, please join us at High Plains Grill for heavy appetizers and desserts immediately following the ceremony.

Where can I drop off my gown after the ceremony?

Bins will be in the downstairs hallway of Pronghorn Center and in the Inspiration Hall lobby.

Cap & Gown, free or rented?

Your gown is rented, but your cap is free! Therefore, it is OK to decorate your graduation cap! Return your gown to one of the designated bins in Pronghorn Center or Inspiration Hall following the ceremony.

Can't make Commencement but still want to view the event?

What time do the doors open to the public?

Doors open for the Nurse Pinning ceremony at 12:00 PM

Doors open for Commencement at 6:00 PM

Where do I park?

The Pronghorn Center Parking Lot, Tanner Village Parking Lot, and Gillette College Main Building (which requires a short walk to Pronghorn Center) are all available. Look for signage and refer to the campus map you can download HERE

Are there any road closures due to the ceremonies?

Yes, Sinclair Street will be closed for approximately 20-30 minutes before the beginning of Commencement to allow graduates to process from the Main Building to the Pronghorn Center. Please plan your route accordingly.

Can I bring signs, balloons, noise makers, or other celebratory items to the ceremony?

The following is a list of prohibited items at Commencement:

  • Coolers and containers
  • Signage of any kind
  • Balloons
  • Plastic or metallic confetti
  • Packages (e.g., gifts, boxes)
  • Large umbrellas
  • Tobacco and e-cigarettes
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons
  • Fireworks
  • Noisemakers
  • Glitter
  • Orbeez

Will tickets be required?

No, tickets are not required. Seating is available on a first come, first served basis.

Is there accessible seating?

Yes, there is a designated area for accessible seating on both the Pronghorn Center floor and some wheelchair-accessible seating on the Pronghorn Center Track. We encourage guests to arrive early.

Is there an ASL interpreter?

Yes, the interpreter will be located stage right.

Is there a limit on the number of guests I can bring?

No, you may bring as many guests as you like. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I bring my dog or other pet if the event is outside?

Only Service Animals are permitted to attend the Nurse Pinning and Commencement ceremonies.

What should I wear to Commencement?

Business casual attire is always suggested but not required. Uneven surfaces such as stairs, concrete paths, and lawn areas are common on campus. Late spring weather is variable. Graduates should be aware that their procession begins at the Main Building and goes to Pronghorn Center, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

Can I bring and refill my water bottle on campus?

Yes! There are many water refilling stations on our campus.

Can I stream the ceremonies since I can’t attend in person?

Yes! Gillette Public Access TV will be broadcasting the Nurse Pinning Ceremony and Commencement. You can watch here at the time of each ceremony: https://play.champds.com/gillettewy/live/7
